Volunteer – join Team Trinity!

Digging up the garden, collecting out-patients, flower arranging, hair dressing, counting coins, making tea for in-patients and greeting visitors – these are just some of the ways YOU could help to keep your local hospice running each and every day.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering - Young peopleIt’s a great chance for you to to give something to the community.  You’ll also meet new people, make friends, learn new skills and be part of Team Trinity!

Whichever part of the Hospice you are in, at whatever time of the day, you’ll meet a volunteer. Our volunteers are involved in almost every aspect of life at Trinity and they help to create a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, which can help dispel any myths about hospice care.

You can also volunteer out in the community, in one of our retail shops around Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre.  Or what about marshalling at our fantastic fundraising events?  Call 01253 359374 to find out more. It’s a great way for older teenagers to get involved with the hospice without making a weekly commitment.

Who can volunteer?

We have around 900 volunteers whose combined efforts save us about £1.6 million a year: to us they are priceless.  If you have a few hours to spare, you could be part of our story too…

  • Parents with young children
  • Retired and semi-retired people
  • Students
  • Unemployed people looking to improve their skills/job prospects

What kind of commitment is required?

Most of our roles ask you to give between two and four hours each week. We can also welcome you on an ad-hoc basis. You’ll need to be reliable and committed to helping us do our good work to ensure we can provide the best possible service to our patients.

You can volunteer during the week or at weekends either in the day or in the evening. Our rotas are covered from 9am until 9pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

If you can’t make a regular commitment don’t worry, we are grateful for any time you can give. All our hospice volunteers receive a comprehensive induction and we like to say thank you as often as we can, with regular trips, appreciation evenings and events.

Our volunteers mean the world to us

Five of our volunteers have been with us for an incredible 30 years; many more have been helping us for 20 years or more.  How can we ever say thank you for such dedication and kindness?

Could you become a Hospice Neighbour?

The Trinity Hospice Neighbours scheme is designed to provide practical support to people in their own homes. The world doesn’t stop for people who have a life-limiting illness, there are still everyday tasks that need to be done, and that’s where Hospice Neighbours can step in. Our Neighbours are volunteers who are matched to a patient and provide practical help in the home – though sometimes all that’s needed is a chat and a cup of tea!

Hospice Neighbours can:

Provide companionship and a listening ear

Accompany people to appointments, shopping or leisure activities

Help with small practical tasks around the house or garden

Give support to attend local activities or groups

Signpost people to other agencies for support

Provide some respite for a carer

It’s a really rewarding role, combining companionship with practical help. Something as simple as taking a much-loved dog for a walk can mean a lot to someone struggling to get out of the house. Collecting a prescription or tidying the garden can make such a difference too.
